Ink

After studying Chinese Ink painting for many years, I explored ways to use the ink work with Western imagery.  The explosive movement of the ink on large rice paper excited me.  The images are based on written accounts of actual explosions.  The series began with the 911 attacks on the Trade Center.  Other paintings used historic writings of witnesses to catastrophic events such as Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and a variety of volcanic explosions.  The black moon titled "O, Galileo” began a series of ink and graphite work I refer to as the black paintings.
